Windshields

Post by SilverRide98 » Tue 06 Dec , 2011 2:36 pm

I am trying to find out if anyone has replaced a windshield with the heaters? How much do they cost and is there a source other than factory? We had bad winds here in California and mine got pitted. I do have insurance, but wondering about finding them.

You can try scouring the various Hummer classified forums, I think I may have seen one side for sale here:

Most likely you'll be ordering a new one from an AM General vendor such as Hummer Parts Guy or Blue Hummer. Each side is around $900-$1100.

If you go to the insurance company they should have a glass place that can get the parts. Let them worry about it.

Of course that can be a viable option. In my younger days I'd probably do that. But now I learned (thankfully through others) that claims are just a good way to get your rates raised. Use insurance for the big ticket items, as in bad car wrecks. $1000 piece of glass destroyed by random rock while driving? That'll just come out of my pocket.

This should fall under comp (non charge)

JustinOK is correct about the price:
http://www.hummerpartsguy.com/GLASS-WIN ... _6020.html

yet, if both sides fall under comp a 500 deductable would be much better for both sides.

Rock chip = comp claim

also guys, look into reducing your comp coverages from 1000 to 500 or 250 ... it doesnt move your prem by much. On high end car windows its a smart move..... sooner or later that rock will be a knockin

I am planning on ordering two new windshield glass seals and two new heated windshields. So when ordering glass.... there is heated (tinted) and heated (non tinted) then just non heated..... I got a 1998 and had a look at it and cant really tell if its tinted or not... so I would assume that it was an option when purchasing new? I've searched the web trying to decide which one to order. Is it worth the extra $550 for the tinted windshield? or if one put in non tinted would I regret it and wish I would have put in tinted?

Thoughts are appreciated.

I would do the tint.

I bought a non tint windshield one time and it was too CLEAR. I was always blinded by every little reflection and it “seemed like” I had more driving fatigue. I think you will need the tinted on the H1 due to the windshield is straight up and down. No angle to help with any glare.

Hope this helps

I'm gonna be replacing my tinted ones with clear ones. My old winshields had pits and small chips. I figure if it's too clear i can always get a tinting guy to put whatever level of tint i want on them. I'm buying the non-heated version since i already removed the system so $50 each side :D
