This modification opens up transmit on HF, VHF and UHF bands. To legally use this mod you must be a Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) member. The radio pictured was purchased new in 10/2001. You must remove diode D.2030. Remove the top cover (5 phillips screws) to access the main board. Locate IC chip 4052C-xxxx (x is just the mfg date). Looking at the chip and reading the number from left to right, look just left of the chip to locate 11 solder pads running up and down. Diode D.2030 was the tenth diode from the top of the solder pads on the US version radio. Remove the diode. It is about 1/32 of an inch square. The one in this radio has a 'V' on top top. You may have to tie a piece of copper wire to your soldering tip and lightly heat the area. take a small pointed object and apply light pressure while you are heating the diode. When the solder melts the diode will go flying so if you want to keep it be careful.
