Console Installation of the Transceiver
Updated December 4, 2008
The actual transceiver is hung from the bottom of the Monsoon amp using the Icom Mounting bracket and an aluminum angle to make it fit. The two white coax lines screw into the rear of the radio. One is for HF the other for UHF. The Red and Black wires are the power feed. They go to the dog house and connect to the battery lines. The thin black and green wires hanging down are for the dome light in the console. I extended them so it would be easier to remove.
This is where you pickup the switched power so the antenna tuner powers up when the radio is turned on. I just got a couple of pin plugs and pushed them into the socket. You can order the 4 conductor plug from Icom if you want.
Looking at the rear of the radio You can see the antenna connections and the ground screw. The black wire harnesses are for the Monsoon stereo etc.
Looking at the radio from the passenger's seat you can see the aluminum angle I used to adapt the width of the monsoon amp (on top) to the radio. You can also see the black cord that is bundled up on the top right of the radio that leads to the head unit.
Lifting the console up into place was easier if I held it with a bucket. The speaker is mounted on the console and plugged into the radio. The wire is routed over the top. The head unit is to the right of the driver angled so you can see the controls while driving. I fastened the microphone hanger between the A/C vents using the existing screws.
